JAY ROGERS SCULPTURE BOXES
|
Saint Jerome's Study
Though finished on all sides, this box is more a diorama than a full sculpture like my other boxes. To capture the sense of perspective in the painting, I decided to make the floor have a rake of 25 degrees and to foreshorten all the structures so that the space would appear much deeper than it actually is. This involved making all the structures angle back to an imaginary vanishing point. I tried to stay true to the dimensions in the painting and to keep the clutter to a minimum, suggesting his scholarly life with just a few objects. The dimensions of the box are 16" high by 13 inches wide by 10 inches deep. The outer wood is cherry, and the inner woods are mahogany for the study, bird's eye maple for the floor, and bog oak for the church interior. There are three compartments. |
