Step Well Series # 5 -

Chand Baori

Stairs cover three sides of the square structure of the step well. On the fourth side is a complex of several stories of pavilions where the royal family could relax while their subjects fetched water. The water could be reached at any level, no matter the season or drought conditions, and it was always 5 - 6 degrees cooler at the bottom of the well than at the top. The box pavilions are made of walnut and bird's eye maple and contain the fourteen drawers and compartments.
